ZANESVILLE - When Anthony and Vincent Russo opened Russo's Wood Fired Pizza, they wanted to bring a different style of pizza to their hometown.

Anthony Russo slides a pizza into the wood-fire oven. Each pizza takes about three minutes to cook.

Russo's Wood Fired Pizza, located at 2526 Maple Ave., serves Neapolitan pizza, a style of pizza originating in Naples, Italy. Customers enter the pizzeria and go through a line and pick from about 40 fresh ingredients for their personal pizza.

After selecting the ingredients or a specialty pizza, each 11-inch pizza is cooked in a wood-fired oven for about three minutes.

Since the fast casual pizzeria opened in March, the mobster and Santa Fe pizzas have become customers favorites.

The mobster pizza, which has been the most popular pizza, is made with a tomato basil sauce, signature cheese blend, ricotta cheese, meatballs, caramelized onions and pesto.

"I think it has been so popular because of the name," Vincent said. "It's a really good combo with the meatballs, onions and pesto."

The mobster, left, and Santa Fe pizzas have become customer favorites at Russo's Wood Fired Pizza.

The Santa Fe pizza is made with garlic oil, cheddar cheese, grilled chicken, corn, tomatoes, jalapeno, cilantro and roasted red pepper ranch.

Both pizzas cost $8.99 and are made with homemade dough and all the ingredients are fresh.

While Russo's is a fast casual pizzeria, it can seat 90, has six 60-inch televisions and offers nine Ohio beers on tap

"The atmosphere and the restaurant is like no other in town," Anthony said. "It's unique and we're local."

Vincent said he has been overwhelmed with community support since the pizzeria opened. He said the only issue in the first three months has been getting people to use the additional parking lot behind the building.

"We've been really happy with turnout and the community has taken a liking to it," Vincent said.
