Human remains found in Morgan County

MALTA - The skeletal remains of a human hand was found by a man who was hunting arrowheads on Friday at the Muskingum River #8 Dam in the Eagleport area.

The location was on Ohio 669 approximately 6.5 miles north of Malta, according to a press release from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.

The Morgan County sheriff and several deputies conducted a search of the area, with volunteers from the Adult Parole Authority and Morgan County Court Probation Department. Several items of interest were collected along with the skeletal remains, according to the release.

These items will be sent to the Criminal Intelligence Analysis Division of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for DNA testing and a search for a possible match to a missing persons, the release stated. In the meantime, the sheriff’s office will coordinate with other law enforcement agencies in the surrounding areas that have listed missing persons to further investigate the situation.
