Author Bob Shea to visit area school

Author Bob Shea is coming to Indian Trail Elementary on Gender Road on March 10 throughout the school day. Area residents may pre-order Shea’s books at cwschools.org. Shea has written and illustrated over a dozen picture books including the popular “Dinosaur vs. Bedtime” and the Amazon Best Children's Book of 2016, “Quit Calling Me a Monster,” written by Jory John. His characters and animations have appeared on Nick Jr, Playhouse Disney and PBS Kids. He spends his days writing, drawing and having conversations with NPR.

New care facility

Construction is underway on Canal Winchester Rehabilitation Center which will be a skilled nursing and assisted living center. The $15 million facility will include 75 skilled nursing beds and 35 assisted living apartments at 202 Gender Road. The center will be set on 7.5 acres in a largely residential neighborhood on East Gender Road, a few blocks south of Groveport Road. The 87,000-square-foot complex, focused on short term rehabilitative care and assisted living services, is expected to open in mid-2017. Approximately 110 local jobs will be created. CW seeks assistant

The city of Canal Winchester is seeking applicants for the part-time position of administrative assistant. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and 1-2 years of responsible office work related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel, Outlook). The candidate must have the ability to learn proprietary software. The city prefers the candidate possess an associate’s degree in business management field.

Food pantry

The Canal Winchester Community Food Pantry is very low on breakfast foods and completely out of cereal. Volunteers are requesting donations of cereal, jelly, granola bars, breakfast bars, etc. throughout the rest of this month. The pantry is located at 360 W. Waterloo Street.

Events

Destination Canal Winchester announced the Lews Brothers will perform in concert from 7 to 10 a.m. Friday at Harvest Moon Craft Kitchen, 7 N. High St. There is no admission charge. There will be food items, non-alcohol beverages, and adult beverages available for sale. For more information, call 614-834-8100.

Destination Canal Winchester also announced there will be a Mardi Gras Party featuring music from Greg Dickson from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, at Hidden Lakes Winery, 650 Winchester Pike. Admission is free.

CW Chamber

March 31 is the date set for the Annual Canal Winchester Area Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards Dinner. It will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Old Blue Rooster Event Center in Lithopolis. The cost is $50 per person. For more information, call 614-837-1556.

Hope Methodist

This Sunday, Hope United Methodist Church on East Columbus Street in Canal Winchester will prepare for the Lenten season series: Living Our Baptismal Calling. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. during the church’s weekly worship service. Church members plan to attend the community Ash Wednesday worship at 7:30 on March 1 at Lithopolis United Methodist Church.
