PIKETON - A Piketon man is facing felony charges after being accused of running down three men outside a Piketon bar on Sunday.

Cody E. Riley, 27, of 216 Birch St., was arraigned on three counts of felonious assault on Wednesday in connection with the incident.

According to a Piketon Police Department report, officers responded to Beril's Bar & Grill at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday to find three men on Middle Street surrounded by a large crowd.

The men - Virgil R. Peoples Jr., 37, of Chillicothe; Mathew B. Stanley, 42, of Beaver; George A. Colley, 29, of Piketon - told police they had been involved in an argument over a woman while inside the bar. They believed everything had been settled and were outside talking with three other friends by the nearby laundromat when a black truck backed out onto the road and then accelerated toward them, striking Peoples, Stanley and Colley.

The investigation led to Riley's home on Birch Street where the truck was found hidden behind the house, according to the report. Officers questioned Riley as well as three alleged passengers in the truck before filing charges on Riley, but details of those interviews were not included in the initial report.

Riley, who previously lived in Jackson, is currently out on bond, which was set at $50,000 with a 10 percent provision in Pike County Court.

The Pike County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation.
