GENOA - Delayna Laurel scored Port Clinton’s first points with two free throws with 46.6 seconds left in the first half Wednesday.

The Redskins fell to Bowling Green 42-21 in a Division II sectional semifinal.

“Too many turnovers,” Port Clinton coach Toby Bickel said. “If you don’t get shots off, you can’t score. Give Bowling Green credit, they came out and played aggressive.

“We didn’t necessarily step up to that level. We struggled to score all year.”

Port Clinton (3-20) allowed only three points in the first quarter as Northern Lakes League player of the year Kendal Glandorff dropped in a 3-pointer with five seconds left. Bowling Green (11-12) led 14-2 at the half.

“We struggled to score and take care of the ball,” Bickel said.

The Redskins missed 11 shots in the first half. Laurel scored eight of her 10 points in the third quarter, including two 3s as Port Clinton outscored the Bobcats 14-13.

“It’s been a good group,” Bickel said. “They practice hard and they play hard. They haven’t quit and they didn’t quit after the first half. We hit a few shots. Defensively, we played pretty well.”

Glandorff finished with 18 points.

“Defense is what wins us games,” Bobcats coach Jeffrey Lee Nichols said. “We put a lock-down on them.”

Port Clinton eliminated Bowling Green from the postseason last year as Laurel canned a put-back jumper at the buzzer.
