FREMONT - A Fremont man being investigated for cocaine trafficking was arrested following a high-speed chase that led law enforcement agencies from Fremont to Tiffin along Ohio 53.

Terryalie W. Nelson, 38, of Fremont, was charged with third degree felony counts of fleeing and eluding and tampering with evidence, according to a news release from the Fremont Police Department.

Authorities were preparing to execute a search warrant around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at 1037 Buckland Ave. when Nelson arrived at the residence and sped off in a vehicle.

Assisting the task force and Fremont police during the chase, which covered a distance of about 15 miles, were the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office and Seneca County Sheriff's Office and Tiffin Police Department, who deployed spike strips at East Township Road 1153.

Nelson evaded the spike strips but drove his white SUV into a ditch. He then ran from the crash site on foot, the release said.

Authorities then began a foot pursuit of Nelson, who ran through a wooded area near East Township Road and was taken into custody in a nearby field, according to the release.

Additional charges are pending against Nelson on drug-related charges stemming from the search warrant.

The Sandusky County Drug Task Force along with the Fremont Police Department seized drug trafficking evidence and a firearm at the residence, the release said.

The search warrant was the result of an investigation into Nelson's alleged role in trafficking cocaine, according to the release.

Nelson, awaiting arraignment, is being held at the Sandusky County Jail without bond.
