Hockey: Generals stay alive in CBJ Cup

After a tough loss Friday night, the Newark Generals bounced back with two wins Saturday to stay alive in the Columbus Blue Jackets Cup.

The Generals lost 3-2 to Hilliard in an overtime shootout, but came back to beat the PHA Prowlers 6-3 and the Westerville Warcats 4-2 to reach next weekend’s semifinals. Newark plays a rematch with Hilliard Friday at the Fairgrounds, with the winner then needing to beat undefeated Dayton twice to claim the title.

In four games combined, Christian Goebel had three goals and three assists including a hat trick against Athens. Patrick Chaykowski had three goals and an assist including a hat trick against PHA. Tyler Schroeder also had three goals and an assist, while Luke Stewart added two goals and two assists. Goalie Alex Strouse went 2-0.
