Wrestling Roundup: Northmor wins MOAC title

SPARTA – Northmor and River Valley kept their streaks alive on Saturday as both won Mid Ohio Athletic Conference team championships in wrestling.

The Golden Knights closed down the Blue Division with a fifth straight title and their seventh in eight seasons. In their final year in the MOAC before departing next season to the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference, Northmor leaves with 14 MOAC wrestling titles in all.

Earning individual titles for the Knights were Conan Becker (138 pounds), Conor Becker (145) and Mason Burger (182). Northmor had the highest team score with 212 points followed in the Blue Division by Highland (100), Mount Gilead (60), Fredericktown (44), Centerburg (30) and East Knox (13).

For River Valley, it won the Red Division for the fourth consecutive year and sixth time in seven seasons. It was the school’s ninth crown since 2001 and 10th in the MOAC. Bryce Hessler was a champion at 152 for the Vikings who scored 183 points followed in the Red by Pleasant (130.5), Galion (125), North Union (102.5), Jonathan Alder (92.5), Buckeye Valley (91.5) and Harding (57).

Other individual titles were Highland’s Christian Miller (113), Highland’s Sean Dudgeon (132), Galion’s Garrett Kuns (170), Galion’s Noah Growowalski (195), Highland’s Zach Baker (220) and Fredericktown’s Mitchell Hurlbut (285).
