NEWARK - A Coshocton man has been arrested and charged with felonious assault in relation to a Dec. 4 home invasion and shooting in Newark.

Floyd C. Lewis, 48, last known address 1617 S. Sixth St., Coshocton, was arrested Wednesday after a warrant was filed in Licking County Common Pleas Court.

According to court records, Lewis and another man reportedly went to a home on the 200 block of West Church Street on Dec. 4 and attempted to kick in a back door at the home.

"They were unsuccessful and began to walk away, and returned a few minutes later," court records said.

A 39-year-old man answered the door when the men returned and was reportedly shot in the thumb and shoulder before fleeing through the home. The victim also was shot in the hip as he was running, according to court records.

Police at the time reported the victim had fled to a neighboring home to seek help. Officers and medics on the scene found a female witness and her teenage son hiding in a bedroom in the home. The victim was flown to Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

The owner of the home was able to provide police with home surveillance video footage showing the alleged home invasion. The homeowner also was reportedly able to identify Lewis, according to court records.

During a bond hearing Thursday afternoon, Lewis said he was not the person responsible for the shooting. Magistrate Mattie Klein set his bond at $100,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the victim.

The case will be reviewed by a grand jury in the coming weeks for possible indictment and consideration of additional charges.
