Ross' Kelly, Port Clinton's Diaz back as state qualifiers

Fremont Ross’ girls swim team has already beat Sandusky and Perkins convincingly and was first at the NWOAC relay meet.

The Little Giants return four state qualifiers this season in senior Kaity Kelly and sophomores Olivia DeRodes, MaKennah Fitzgerald and AnneMarie Moses. Kelly is team captain and the only senior.

Sophomore Rilee Overmyer qualified to districts. Juniors Hannah Kelly and Torie Miller and sophomore Sophia Biggins earned letters last season.

Alexis Prenzlin, Shelby Level and Ellie Stover are among a large group of freshmen.

“This team is very young, but it has lots of young athletes with years of big-meet experience as USA Sand Otter swimmers,” Ross girls coach Tina Moses said. “We also have plenty of newcomers who are working hard and should make an impact as the season rolls along.

“I am very excited to see where this season takes the girls.”

Juniors Tate Williams and Andrew Evans are back as state qualifiers for the Little Giants’ boys. Seniors Jared Fox and Manuel Gutierrez, juniors William Taylor, Mitchell Mullholland and Matthew Kuyken, and freshmen Dylan Weisenauer, Zach McNutt and Cody Farrier are also among those who will compete for the boys.

Port Clinton’s girls return four state qualifiers

Port Clinton seniors Brittany Diaz and Kenzie Pluto, junior Lauren Shaw and sophomore Bryanna Barr return with experience in Canton. Senior Zach Barr and junior Jack Kessler qualified to state for the boys.

Seniors Natalie Gottron, Emily Reineck, Rachel Reineck and Abbey Weldon, juniors Madi Recker, Gabby Sharkey, Rachel Simpson and Macy Weiss, and sophomores Alaina Schultz and Analisa Snyder earned letters for the girls last season.

Pluto already established a program record for six dives this season.

Senior Thomas Keville and sophomores Jack Carpenter, Peyton Culver and Jackson Kennedy have letters for the boys.

“Looking forward to an exciting season,” Redskins coach Danny Diaz said. “Six state qualifiers are looking to make it back to the state meet. Every season brings its own set of challenges and this one is no different.

“Making it to the state meet is never a given and we are looking forward to the challenge to return.”

State-qualifying relay group back for Rockets

Oak Harbor seniors Taylor Byington, Mikenzie Blunt, Paige Priesman and Abigail Mizelle qualified to state last season. Seniors Montanna McMullen and Ariana Sauerwein and juniors Sarah Chovanec and Recie Spangler also earned letters for the girls.

“The girls have a large group of veteran seniors and juniors with the addition of two strong freshmen,” Rockets coach Andrea Sorg said. “Look for big things to come out of this group.”

Seniors Elijah Dombrowsky, Konner Fletcher, Lucas Greggila, Zach Hess, Zach Price and Richard Mettie, and sophomore Blaine Wagner lettered for the Rockets’ boys.

“The boys have a large group of freshmen and seniors,” Sorg said. “They challenge each other in practice and are pushing each other to work harder.”

Chovanec, McMullen, Dombrowsky, Fletcher, Hess and Price qualified to districts. Freshmen Erin Druyor, Bailey Blunt, Caleb Heintz, Griffin Heintz, Kobe Fletcher and Thomas Chovanec are also in the mix.
