PCC Airfoils growing, hiring new workers

CROOKSVILLE - With few exceptions, every aircraft in the sky flies with parts made by Precision Castparts Corp., according to Scott Bush, plant manager at PCC Airfoils in Crooksville.

PCC Airfoils is a worldwide, diversified manufacturer of complex metal components and products for aerospace, power generation and industrial markets.

"PCC is the market leader in manufacturing large, complex structural investment castings, airfoil castings and forged components used in jet aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines," said Rob Lake, material manager.

The company is also a leading producer of highly engineered, critical fasteners for aerospace, and industrial markets and supplies metal alloys and other materials to the casting and forging industries, according to Lake.

"Current aerospace trends have placed a premium on engine performances and fuel efficiency," said Lake. "This has created a need for complex aerodynamic turbine airfoils that operate at higher service temperatures."

Due to increased demand, the Crooksville manufacturer recently increased its starting wage, to nearly $12.50, to attract qualified individuals who are looking for a career in the aerospace industry.

PCC Airfoils has been in Crooksville since 1975. Employing about 250 individuals, the manufacturer is one of Perry County's largest employers, according to Bush.

"If you couple wages with the benefits package offered at PCC, as well as the quarterly bonuses, we are one of the most competitive companies in the area," Bush said. "We need motivated and detail-oriented individuals who can read and follow the instructions outlined by our engineers."

Hot section airfoils must be able to maintain their structural integrity in an environment of extreme temperatures and corrosive gasses, according to Bush. Their manufacture requires the use of special superalloys that are resistant to high temperature, oxidation, corrosion and stress levels.

"The complex shapes required for these components can only be achieved with advanced investment casting technology," said Bush. "The dimensional control must be precise."

PCC Airfoils is looking to hire 20 to 30 people right now. The company provides in-house certification training and offers advancement with dedication and performance.

"Our business is growing and we need individuals who want to grow with us," said Lake.
