FREMONT - The Sandusky County Chamber of Commerce will have its third president-CEO since Aug 1. Jill Simpson was hired during a board meeting Thursday.

Simpson, currently a program specialist at the United Way of Sandusky County, is a long-time resident and worker in Sandusky County. She previously served as administrative coordinator in charge of fundraising events at Terra State Community College, as a manager at the Sandusky County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the director for Leadership Sandusky County.

"I think my familiarity with the chamber will make for a smooth transition," Simpson said. "I have experience with non-profit boards and know a lot of chamber members."

Simpson will take over as president and CEO Nov. 7, according to a press release from Sandusky County Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman Rob Hershey.

In August, ADP Findlay recruiter Ashley Brown was named president and CEO. Hershey declined to comment on the abrupt change in leadership.

Prior to Brown's hiring, Angie Morelock served as president and CEO of the chamber from January 2013 to August 2016.

Morelock said she believed the chamber was in a better place following her departure to become the public relations and communication director at Vanguard-Sentinel Career and Technology Center in Fremont.

Simpson comes with prior experience working with the chamber as an ambassador for the Sandusky Chamber of Commerce the past seven years, acting as an official representative for the chamber at special events.

Hershey said Simpson's job responsibilities include increasing membership, overseeing chamber finances and facilitating community development.

"My goal is to build off the success and keep the chamber moving forward and finding out what our members or new members need," Simpson said.
