Wholesale liquidation store opens

FRAZEYSBURG - For Mike Farmer, it's like Christmas each time a tractor trailer backs up to his store, Farmer's World.

"I never know what is going to be on the truck," Farmer said. "It could be anything, it's a surprise."

Farmer, who owned and operated a hydrographics business from the same location at 22 E. Third St. until July, now has his store filled with wholesale liquidation merchandise.

"It's returned items and overstocks mainly," Farmer. said. "I have a general idea of what's in the truck when I buy it. Like this load, I knew was tools but I didn't know exactly kind of tools until it was unloaded."

Recently, the shelves were filled with shop vacuums, a variety of power tools, hand tools, weed trimmers and household items. Before the merchandise was stocked, everything was tested to make sure it works.

A variety of power tools on display at Farmer's World in Frazeysburg. The store has a rotating stock of items from a variety of categories.

"I've always been in maintenance and trouble-shooting," Farmer said. "So if something is wrong, I can usually fix it."

Before transforming his hydrographics business into a wholesale liquidation store, Farmer bought return and overstock lots and sold the merchandise online. "It's always a risk. I bought a load of 1,800 items one time and 500 items were trash."

Once unloaded and tested, Farmer scans the bar codes to find the retail price of each item and then typically cuts the price in half to sell in his store.

"I am going to try to get a load of electronics next time," Farmer said. "When it gets closer to summer, I'll get a Bass Pro load or something like that."

Farmer's World is located in the Johnston's Pharmacy Plaza. The business is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
