Grand jury indicts 20

COSHOCTON - Four Coshocton residents are charged with aggravated burglary in connection with an Aug. 18 break-in of an Elm Street home in which one of the four was reportedly shot twice.

Richard J. Kafel, 26, of 720 S. Seventh St.; Jeremiah E. Brock, 18, of 349 N. Sixth St.; Kylie S. Biss-Brown, 20, of 433 Mulberry St.; and Alexander T.M. Nelson, 22, of 875 Walnut St.,  are charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony.

A Coshocton County grand jury recently indicted them on those charges in Coshocton County Common Pleas Court.

Coshocton County Sheriff’s deputies report two people kicked in a door of a home in the 600 block of Elm Street on Aug. 18. One man reportedly swung a baseball bat at residents inside the home before a male resident fired several shots at the intruders.

Deputies report Kafel was shot twice. They took him to Coshocton County Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before taking him into custody.

In other cases:

Allen Lee Knott, 28, of 784 Work Drive, Akron, is charged with two counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of having weapons under disability in connection with an armed robbery on Aug. 29. He also faces four firearms specifications on the first four counts, which could carry a mandatory three years in prison upon conviction.

County Prosecutor Jason Given said Knott has previous convictions for robbery and attempted murder with a firearm from 2007 and was just released from prison in 2014.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Knott during a traffic stop on U.S. 36 after receiving a 911 call that had reported an armed robbery. They allegedly seized drugs and cash during that stop. Given said the drugs have been sent to a state laboratory for analysis.

Antonio R. Ross, 51, John Tate, 55, and Vincent L. Scott, 56, all of 415 S. Lawn Ave., face drug trafficking charges following an Aug. 25 raid of their home, which netted cash, a firearm and drugs.

Ross is charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, methamphetamine and cocaine; two counts of drug trafficking, methamphetamine; and having weapons while under disability, a handgun, which also carries a weapons specification. The charges stem from incidents on Aug. 22, 23 and 25. Prosecutors also seek forfeiture of $726 in cash, a 2004 Ford Explorer, 2001 Cadillac and 2002 GMC, alleged to have been obtained through drug sales.

Tate and Scott are charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, methamphetamine and cocaine; and having weapons while under disability, a handgun, all on Aug. 25. Both also face firearms specifications. Additionally, prosecutors seek forfeiture of Tate's 2007 Mercedes, alleged to have been purchased through earnings from drug trafficking.

Three other Coshocton residents also face felony drug charges following a raid of their home at 208 Burt Ave on Aug. 30 that netted methamphetamine, cash and a firearm.

Jeremy D. Brown, 39, is charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs, methamphetamine, and having weapons while under disability, a handgun, on Aug. 30. He also faces a firearms specification..

Alice M. Brown, 40, is charged with four counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, methamphetamine, near a school, on Aug. 18, 22, 29 and 30.

Amanda L. Shryock, 37, is charged with three counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, methamphetamine, near a school, on Aug. 17 and 30; and having weapons while under disability, a handgun, on Aug. 30, which carries an accompanying firearm specification.

Roni L. Landis Jr., 32, of 21966 Emerson St., Newcomerstown, is charged with six counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a 14-year-old girl, between July 3 and Aug. 24.

Brandon R. Harsh, 32, of 409 N. Eighth St., is charged with endangering children in connection with the Aug. 10 injury of a 2-year-old girl. According to the Coshocton County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a 911 call that day about a child with life-threatening injuries who was taken to Coshocton County Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus. She was later released to Coshocton County Children Services and is doing well, the sheriff's office reported.

Daniel W. Bender, 18, of 27256 Township Road 47, Coshocton, is charged with two counts of abducting two 16-year-olds and one count of failure to comply with the order of a police officer on Aug. 30. Sheriff's deputies report probation officers tried to serve Bender with a warrant that day, but he allegedly ran away before driving off in a Ford Explorer. Deputies report they chased Bender for more than 30 minutes from U.S. 36 to Township Road 178.

Daniel J. Walters, 39, of 17896 Township Rod 347, Coshocton, is charged with burglary; breaking and entering; possessing criminal tools, a folding knife; tampering with evidence; and theft in connection with the Aug. 25 break-in of a home and garage in the 20000 block of Township Road 164. The first four charges are felonies, while the theft is a first-degree misdemeanor, linked to the theft of cash, jewelry and a TV.

Mark D. Tidwell, 47, address unknown, is charged with breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, and theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. The charges stem from the June 28 break-in of a store in the 400 block of South Second Street and the theft of clothing from it.

John R. Spellman, 35, of 8388 Somerset Road, Thornville, is charged with identity fraud and forgery. The first charge stems from the theft of a name, birth date and Social Security number of another man on April 25. The second charge alleges he forged a waiver and plea document from Coshocton Municipal Court that same day.

Jay W. Corder, 42, of 1212 S. Sixth St., Coshocton, is charged with escape on June 28.

Joshua E. Redifer, 22, of 859 Magnolia St., is charged with receiving stolen property, a credit card, and misuse of that credit card, on July 10. The first charge is a fifth-degree felony, while the second is a first-degree misdemeanor.

Andrew B. Lynch, 42, of 325 E. Fourth St., West Lafayette, is charged with domestic violence stemming from an incident on Aug. 27. A previous domestic violence conviction from New Philadelphia elevates this charge to a fourth-degree felony.
