Tommy D. Rule, 73; Kyah L. Myers-Zehner, 22; and Kayce E. Hahn, 22, all of Bucyrus, are facing felony charges after Waverly Police and the Pike County Sheriff's Office searched a vehicle the three were in at the Walmart in Waverly.

Rule was charged with trafficking in drugs and permitting drug abuse, both fifth-degree felonies. Zehner was charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, and Hahn was charged with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, according to Waverly Police officials.

Waverly Police Department officials said the three were taken into custody in the Walmart parking lot shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday. A K-9 unit was brought in moments later to assist at the scene and perform a sniff search of the vehicle.

Officials said the K-9 indicated on the passenger-side door and a full search of the vehicle was performed. There, officers found what they suspect to be heroin. Waverly Police said they were told by those in the vehicle the substance was heroin.

The suspected heroin has been submitted to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and officials said further charges could be pending the results of those tests. Officials said they are awaiting lab results to say how much heroin was found in the car.

More than eight marked cruisers were on the scene at the time of the incident, the majority from the Pike County Sheriff's Office, along with other unmarked cars, police officials said.

No other details were immediately available because of the ongoing investigation.
