CORNING - On Wednesday, deputies with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a man wanted in Columbus for involuntary manslaughter.

Kyle Payton Smith, 32, was wanted by Columbus Police for charges of involuntary manslaughter, corrupting another with drugs, drug trafficking and drug possession.

Columbus detectives had contacted the Perry County Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance with locating and apprehending Smith, who was believed to possibly be staying at a Bearfield Township home in Corning, according to a release from the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies arrived at the address, they observed signs that indicated someone was present in the home, and after an hour-long standoff, deputies were able to apprehend Smith, who was barricaded inside the home, with the help of K9 Argo, the release said. Deputies warned Smith that the canine was about to be deployed into the residence, and Smith surrendered without incident, the release said.
