Auction planned at Harvey Homestead Barn

BUCYRUS - As September 10 draws closer, a list of auction items for the Harvey Homestead Barn Sale grows longer.  This event is designed to benefit Harvey One-Room School. Each donated auction item has a special history. So does the barn where they will be sold. A sample of the range of treasures includes a butter churn, 1800s Bible, oil lamps, chairs and rockers, a footed bathtub, tools, lanterns, toys, heirloom dolls, quilts, pails, crates, copper items, crocks and barrels, frames, a rug beater, and merchandising display racks.

Old books will be pre-priced and sold apart from the live auction, including old recipe books. Harvey School Board members are contributing a limited amount of selected homemade baked items for the auction.

Sandwiches, beverages and kettle corn will be available that day from 10 a.m. until the sale ends. The listing is online for viewing at www.harveyoneroomschool.com and at tourism@bucyrus.org. The renovated Harvey Homestead Barn is at 1020 Caldwell Road. The auction begins at 10 a.m. Sept. 10 and the school will be open that day.

Washington trip topic of meeting

GALION - The Galion eighth-grade Washington, D.C., field trip is planned for May 23 to 25. There will be a parents meeting regarding the trip at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the middle school gymnasium.

The cost for the trip is $385, with the initial deposit of $150 due by Sept. 15. A $100 payment is due Dec. 1, and the balance for the trip is due April 1. Students must be in good academic standing and acquire no more than 19 demerits for the school year in order to be eligible for the trip. The building administration will make a final determination of all students’ academic and behavior standings.

If parents are unable to attend this meeting or need additional information, contact the middle school office at 419-468-3134. Visit middleschool.galionschools.org for a complete trip itinerary.

Pep rally Friday at BES

BUCYRUS - The Bucyrus Athletics Department is continuing a time-honored tradition in the district. Members of the football, boys and girls golf, girls tennis, cross country and volleyball teams, along with the High School cheerleaders and Bucyrus High School Demo Band, will participate in a pep rally starting at 2 p.m. Friday in the Bucyrus Elementary School auditorium.

Along with the pep rally, Bucyrus Elementary School students will receive free admission to the home football game that evening as the Redmen host Wynford. All elementary school parents may purchase a presale ticket for the contest for $4, or pay regular price the night of the game. Presale tickets will be available until Sept. 1.
