Beaschler moves on in Drive, Chip and Putt qualifier

Staff report

GAHANNA - Wynford student Jacob Beaschler advanced out of the local qualifier at the Golf Depot in Gahanna for the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship.

Beaschler was first in the 12-to-13 boys age group, winning the chipping and putting skills challenges. He will next compete Aug. 13 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in a sub-regional qualifier. Beaschler qualified for Muirfield last year as well.

This is the fourth year of the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship, which is sponsored by the United States Golf Association, The Masters Tournament and the PGA of America. There were 256 host sites for local qualifying in all 50 states.

If Beaschler makes it out of Muirfield, he would move on to the regional qualifier at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

His parents are Mark and Stephanie Beaschler, and his father is a lieutenant with the Marion Police Department. Beaschler receives golf instruction locally at Green Acres from John and Steve Grimes.
