BELLVILLE - Lexington resident Jacob Goettel was coming home from his job at Clear Fork Adventure Resort when he saw a motorcyclist crash his red motorcycle near the intersection of Rhinehart and Dill roads around 5 p.m. Friday.

He performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man.

Goettel parked his vehicle in the intersection for the safety of the victim.

Trooper Chad Belcher of the Mansfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said Jarrod M. Downs, 23, of Mansfield, was traveling southwest on Rinehart Road and traveled off the right side of the road and struck a sign and was ejected from his motorcycle.

Downs suffered significant, visible injuries, Belcher said. He was transported by squad to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital and transferred by helicopter to Grant Hospital.

Witnesses said he was not wearing a helmet.
