MARION - One suspect in a Friday armed robbery is in custody as deputies seek a second suspect, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Two men robbed an employee at Al's Country Market at knife point before driving off in a Chrysler PT Cruiser. The employee called 911 to report the incident at 1:56 p.m.

While the two men used shirts to cover their faces, Chief Deputy Al Hayden said surveillance images led them to suspect Matthew Thomas, who was arrested later that day.

Thomas, 35, 545 Cherry St., Marion, was arrested on a charge of aggravated robbery. His arrest occurred after a traffic stop on Cherry Street involving the suspected vehicle, Hayden said.

Thomas is being held at the Multi-County Correctional Center and charges have not been filed in Marion Municipal Court, according to online records. Deputies have not determined the identity of the second suspect but are "gathering information" on him, according to a news release.

No weapons have been recovered.
