Lt. Christy Utley said the victim was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with "non-life-threatening" injuries and he is expected to be released from the hospital soon.

Around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jacob A. Jones was arrested on a charge of felonious assault in connection with the case, according to Utley.

Utley said there was a party in the area of Chestnut Street on Monday and an altercation occurred there. After that, the victim and Jones left separately, and Utley alleged that Jones later assaulted the victim in the 1000 block of North Main Street.

Criminal charges have not been filed in court, but municipal court records show that on May 24, Jones pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of assault and obstructing official business. Records indicated that case involved an incident at a local bar, and Jones received a 120-day suspended sentence.

Court records indicate Jones is 21 and lives at 205 Silver St., one street over from where Utley said the party occurred.

Utley said no other arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and she did not know how many people were at the party. No other injuries have been reported to law enforcement.

Marion Police Maj. Jeff Clewell said Marion Police officers provided assistance in the case.
