Four indicted on heroin distribution in Perry County

Staff report

NEW LEXINGTON - Perry County Sheriff William R. Barker has announced the indictments and arrests of four suspects in the distribution of heroin in Perry County.

The Perry County Grand Jury returned indictments April 28 on three family members who were alleged to have involvement in the trafficking of heroin in the Corning/Monroe Township area.

Charles M. Hook Jr., 35, is charged with three counts of trafficking in heroin and one count of aggravated possession of drugs. His mother, Sandra K. Hook, 59, is charged with one count of trafficking in heroin and one count of permitting drug abuse. His father, Charles E. Hook Sr., 61, is charged with one count of permitting drug abuse.

Sheriff’s deputies and CODE Task Force agents raided the Hook residence, located at 13516 Chapel Hill Road in Corning, early Wednesday and arrested the three. A fourth family member, Barney A. Hook, 41, also was arrested on misdemeanor drug charges.

Sandra Hook, along with Charles M. Hook Jr., allegedly sold heroin to an undercover informant working for the drug task force in July. Charles M. Hook, Jr. was arrested July 31 on outstanding felony warrants out of Morgan County and was found with more heroin in his possession, which prosecutors say was possessed for resale.

Also indicted was Joshua D. Goodrich, 31, of Somerset. He was alleged to have sold an undercover informant a large quantity of methamphetamine Feb. 2 in Junction City.

Perry County Sheriff’s Office deputies then attempted to stop Goodrich on March 17 in Somerset, but Goodrich failed to yield and led deputies on a short chase through Somerset with the pursuit ending with Goodrich’s vehicle crashing into construction equipment at the Somerset American Legion, authorities said.

All suspects are being held in the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail in Nelsonville and are awaiting arraignments in the Perry County Common Pleas Court.
