(NEWSER) – A Valentine's Day story for the ages and one class's sweet gesture for a deaf classmate make the list:

Norwood Thomas, 93, from the U.S. reunites with his wartime girlfriend Joyce Morris of Australia, in Adelaide, Australia, on Feb. 10.

  • WWII Sweethearts Reunite: It was the hug he'd been waiting 70 years to receive. World War II vet Norwood Thomas, 93, greeted wartime sweetheart Joyce Morris, 88, in person this week for the first time since their brief love affair in London in 1944. The back story on this perfect Valentine's Day tale is here.
  • Class Goes Above and Beyond for Deaf Boy: In September, 6-year-old Coralic Zejd showed up for his first day of school and sat silently on a bench, his eyes wide. He was deaf, and no one at the school, not even his teacher, knew sign language. Three months later, that had changed in dramatic, and moving, fashion.
  • A Speeding Car, for Good Reason: An Alabama state trooper got quite the shock when he pulled over a speeder on US 72 and realized the reason behind the rush. In short order, the trooper helped the couple inside the car expand their family by one, then made an executive decision about the speeding penalty.
  • 'Missing' Man Remembers Who He Is: Almost 30 years after he went missing from a group home in Kitchener, Ontario, at the age of 21, Edgar Latulip remembered something very important last month: his name. Now his mother finally has an answer to the mystery that's haunted her.
  • Woman Falls 60 Feet, Lands in a Lucky Spot: There's never a good time to accidentally plunge 60 feet off a balcony, but there is sometimes a good place to land if that happens: like on a bed. Incredibly, this happened in a department store, with a happy ending.
