Lexington man injured in fatal U.S. 23 crash

DELAWARE - The Delaware post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash at occurred at about 9:55 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 23 at Cheshire Road in Liberty Township in Delaware County.

Carl R. Canfield, 52, of Lexington, was driving a black 2011 Peterbilt 337 flatbed tow truck north on U.S. 23 in the right lane approaching Cheshire Road, according to the patrol.

A 2004 Lincoln LS was traveling south on U.S. 23 and attempted to make a left turn onto Cheshire Road, failing to yield to the tow truck, according to the patrol.

Both vehicles traveled off the northeast corner of the  intersection and struck a pine tree before coming to rest.

Canfield sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken by squad to OhioHealth Riverside Hospital.

The female driver of the Lincoln sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the patrol.

Next of kin notification is pending.

Alcohol and drug use is not suspected, according to the patrol.
