Cruisin' the Campuses: Louisville's Hawkins ties school record

Louisville sophomore Jade Hawkins recently etched her name in the school record book.

The Tri-Valley product tied the school's pole vault record of 13 feet, 6.25 inches in last weekend's Indiana Relays. She finished third in the event.

• Ashland sophomore Haley Gregory, from John Glenn, was on the eighth-place 1,600 relay (3:53) and 15th in the 60 hurdles (:08.82) during last weekend's Penn State National Invite. Elijah Talk, a sophomore from Philo, finished 11th in the shot (53-11) for the Eagles.

Tiffin senior Sarah Clow and junior Mary Beth Boyden also threw at that meet. Clow finished 14th (46-1.5) and Boyden 15th (44-6.75) in the shot.

• Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Emily Brown, of John Glenn, came in third in the long jump (17-3.5) and 15th in the triple jump (32-5) in Saturday's SPIRE Invite. Senior teammate Sarah Cooper, of Maysville, placed 12th in the weight throw (45-10), and fellow OWU senior Zak Geiger, a former John Glenn standout, was 12th in the 3,000 (8:52).

• Rio Grande sophomore Alex Presley, a Maysville alum, finished sixth in the shot (51-5.5) in last weekend's Findlay Classic. Sophomore teammate Aaron Evancho, also from Maysville, came in 14th in the 800 (2:06.23), and fellow sophomore Clinton Campbell of Morgan placed 14th in the 200 (:23.41) for the Red Storm.

Basketball

• Amariah Huck, a senior at Otterbein, surpassed 1,000 career points with 12 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Cardinals topped John Carroll 75-65 Wednesday. The Tri-Valley alum also posted a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds to help the Cardinals down Muskingum 66-57 in overtime Saturday.

• West Liberty senior Kailee Howe scored 14 points to go with five assists and four steals in a 99-90 loss to West Virginia State on Saturday. The former Zanesville standout leads Division II with 10.4 assists per game and also averages 12.9 points and 4.5 rebounds.

• Junior Zak Kirkbride contributed six points and six rebounds as West Liberty downed West Virginia State 97-79 Saturday. The Rosecrans product also had four points in the Hilltoppers' 89-72 win over Charleston on Jan. 28.

• Sophomore Amisha Herd had a solid game with six points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals and freshman Corrie Burkhardt added 13 rebounds but was held to two points in Marietta's 67-52 loss to Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday. Herd, of West Muskingum, led the Pioneers with 12 points, and Burkhardt, from Philo, added nine points and nine rebounds in a 66-48 loss to Capital on Wednesday.

• Otterbein junior Jake Phillis hit a 3 at the buzzer in a 76-75 win against Muskingum on Saturday. The Zanesville grad scored 15 points with three assists to pace the Cardinals. He was held to five points and two assists in Otterbein's 95-48 loss to John Carroll on Wednesday.

• Taylor Gittings, a sophomore at Belmont Abbey, collected seven points, seven rebounds and three assists in Saturday's 79-70 loss to Erskine. The former Sheridan standout had seven points and seven rebounds in an 80-57 defeat to Emmanuel on Friday and contributed two points and four rebounds in Wednesday's 68-64 loss to Pfeiffer.

• Redshirt freshman Avery Williams made 10 of 15 shots to score 20 points and also had 13 rebounds and five assists for Ohio Valley in an 82-80 loss to Davis & Elkins on Tuesday. The Tri-Valley grad was held to two points and five rebounds in a 101-79 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday.

• Charleston junior Darian Apperson finished with four points and nine rebounds in the 80-56 loss to West Liberty on Jan. 28. The Morgan product is contributing 4.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 20 games.

• Mount Vernon Nazarene senior Steph Imes had one rebound and one steal in 14 minutes in an 88-53 loss to Goshen on Saturday. The West Muskingum alum has 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals in 12 games.

• Indiana-Pennsylvania senior Amy Graham, from West Muskingum, has played in eight games with two points and three rebounds in 45 minutes.

• Fairmont State freshman Sabrina Madson, a West M grad, has six points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals in seven games.
