Rajan returns to regional spelling bee

CHILLICOTHE - Bishop Flaget fifth-grader Nilla Rajan will attend the Region I Spelling Bee at Ohio University March 19 for the second year in a row.

Rajan, who is the daughter of Nithya and Karthika Rajan, represented Bishop Flaget in the competition last year and has a chance to go back again this year.

Rajan scored high enough on the online test in January to earn her spot in the next level of spelling competition. Rajan scored 49 out of a possible 50 points.

Rajan qualified for the online test by winning the Bishop Flaget School spelling bee in January. She was the first-place speller. Second place went to seventh-grader Stephanie Hirsch.
