PORT CLINTON – The cause of death for an infant who died Tuesday at Lakeview Estates is still unknown after a Lucas County Coroner's Office autopsy.

Ottawa County Coroner Dan Cadigan said the cause is expected to be determined by toxicology and viral studies, which take more time.

"The report is pending. It can take up to six weeks," Cadigan said.

Detective Sgt. Corbin Carpenter said the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed. He is being assisted by the Ottawa County Department of Job and Family Services.

The mother and grandmother of the infant called 9-1-1 Tuesday morning and said the baby was not breathing.

Mom told 911 her baby wasn't breathing

The mother said the baby was motionless on a bed. She said she did not know what happened. The dispatcher advised her how to perform CPR until emergency personnel got to the apartment.

The baby was taken to Magruder Hospital, but records clerk Mark Anderson said it is unclear if the baby died at the scene or while being transported. He said he did not believe the baby was admitted into the hospital.
