GRANVILLE - Police arrested three people early Thursday morning in connection with as many as 30 burglaries, including 27 automobiles and three garages during the night.

Justus M. Siegle, 19, last known address 231 Rosehill Ave.; Newark; D'Angelo Q. Burns Jr., 18, last known address 360 N. 11th St., Newark; and Anthony T. Daniels, 20, last known address 126 Western Ave., Newark, were all charged Thursday with second-degree felony burglary in Licking County Common Pleas Court.

According to a statement of facts, Siegle had a knife on his person when Granville police pulled the vehicle over as well as several items that were suspicious, including "numerous gift cards."

Police reported a purse also was located in the vehicle with the ID of a person who later told police her vehicle had been broken into while in her garage, which is attached to the home.

According to a statement of facts, there was property in the vehicle that "appeared to be stolen." Knives, jewelry, cash, gift cards, coins, a phone charger and a watch were reported found.

One of the men reportedly told police the trio had been driving around "looking for cars to break into."

Court records indicate the majority of the vehicles that were broken into were in garages that were attached to homes. Records also show Siegle is on probation for burglary and Burns had an active warrant out of Franklin County. Daniels was released from prison in February after serving 18 months in prison for robbery and assault charges.

Siegle, Burns and Daniels were all booked into the Licking County Justice Center and are scheduled to have their first court appearances Friday afternoon.

Granville Police Chief Bill Caskey said late Thursday afternoon that calls were still coming in with reports of missing items.

Reports of thefts and break-ins came from residents of Granville's north and east sides, including Newark-Granville Road, Welsh Hills Road, Pinehurst Drive, North Granger Street, Cedar Street, North Pearl Street, Bedwen Bach Lane and Glyn Tawel Drive, the latter two in the Bryn Du Woods subdivision, police said.

Caskey said the vehicle in which the three were riding was pulled over from the eastbound lane of Ohio 16 just after it turned from the southbound lane of Cherry Valley Road.

Officer Justin Woodyard reported he made the stop after noticing a license plate light was out and after an illegal lane change. Caskey said Woodyard noticed the items in the vehicle while making an inventory.

"We're very glad officer Woodyard was attentive and was able to retrieve the property and arrest the thieves," Caskey said. "This was the result of good police work.
