CLEVELAND -- Filming for the movie "Wake" "...is currently shut down."

That is the Bruce Willis movie being filmed in and around Northeast Ohio.

"The Greater Cleveland Film Commission is aware that the film "Wake" has discontinued filming due to a lack of financing. It is our understanding that they are trying to find the remaining funds to complete the film. So far their experience in Cleveland has been very positive and they hope to return to Cleveland very soon."

According to production, "Benaroya Pictures is working quickly to remedy the delay in production on the feature film WAKE, and we are optimistic we will resume principal photography in approximately 2-3 weeks."

Ivan Schwarz, President of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission said, "We are continuing with our mission to build a year round industry in Cleveland and Northeast, Ohio. So far we have created 1,100 full time equivalent jobs, have had an economic impact of $300 million and a return on investment of $1.84.

Filming began in early February and was scheduled to continue through April 17 so that means more than a hundred of the independent contractors could miss out on several weeks of work, a big let down especially since it's rare for them to find film work in the winter.

Each day filmakers have to pay for hotels, transportation, food, equipment, etc... for crew members. That adds up quickly in the tens of thousands of dollars each day.

Sources close to the movie say It's very rare for a movie to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars, and several months of planning and then to run out of funding.
