Happy 175th birthday, Ottawa County

OTTAWA COUNTY – It’s not a secret Ottawa County is steeped in a rich, colorful history. From the native Ottawas to the Battle of Lake Erie, and the Marblehead Lighthouse to the centuries-old farming and manufacturing communities, this area is a haven for people looking to find their roots.

Today marks the 175th anniversary of the formation of Ottawa County from portions of Erie, Lucas and Sandusky counties.

Saturday’s Port Clinton News Herald will feature and in-depth look at how the county has changed in its 175 years, including historic photographs of Elmore, Genoa, Marblehead, Port Clinton, Gypsum, the Lake Erie Islands and Oak Harbor.

It will feature local historians and residents talking about memories of their communities and hopes for the future of Ottawa County.
