McCarthy's to mark first decade, St. Patrick's
PORT CLINTON – While it's still a little under two weeks away, the staff of McCarthy's Irish Restaurant and Pub is gearing up for its biggest celebration to date — a combined St. Patrick's Day and 10th anniversary tent event.
The 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. event will feature popular Irish food and drinks in a large heated tent, with music from five local bands, leprechauns, face painting and balloons for children. Family fun will run from noon to 4 p.m.
Guests can pick up a Reuben sandwich, banger sandwich with McCarthy's own Guinness spicy mustard, fish and chips, Irish burrito, kids hot dogs and macaroni and cheese, Irish (beef) stew and vegetarian potato soup at the tent on Madison Street. Inside the restaurant and pub, there will be a lamb chop dinner special, manager Paul Markus said.
"It's going to be huge. We're going all out," Markus said. "We've never done something this big."
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Port Clinton Athletic Complex Association Stadium Project, helping to build the new all-season track, field and football stadium for Port Clinton schools.
On Monday, McCarthy's cook Brad Mowell was busy rolling the start of more than 600 sauerkraut balls for the event. Made with cream cheese, butter, onion, swiss cheese, heavy cream, sauerkraut, egg, parsley flakes and pepper, the sauerkraut balls are sure to be a hit, Mowell said.
Beer will include Irish favorites like Guinness, Smithwick's, Harp, Great Lakes Brewery Company's Conway's Irish Ale and the new Catawba Island Brewery Company "McCarthy's Tartan Red."
Musician lineup:
• Extra Stout — 12 to 2:30 p.m.
•Calico Skies (inside) — 3 to 5 p.m.
•The Mighty McGuiggans — 3 to 5 p.m.
•Corduroy Road — 5:15 to 7:30 p.m.
