STEM students complete project at Oak Harbor

Submitted

OAK HARBOR - The eighth-grade STEM classes (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) at Oak Harbor High School, taught by Rob Zajac, have been working on a project for “Believe in Ohio,” a program giving students an opportunity to explore the concept of becoming entrepreneurs.

Throughout the semester, students were asked to come up with a new product and turn the idea into a business plan. Students conducted their own research on their products, and eventually created a presentation of their product and business plans.

The project culminated Tuesday when the top six presentations chosen by their teacher competed in front of four judges for the top honor. The judging panel consisted of Valerie Winterfield, Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce; Laurie Godfrey, Believe in Ohio STEM Advocate; Joan Hany, Commodore Perry Federal Credit Union; and Lauretta Swint, Oak Harbor science teacher.

The six finalists were Jordan Buckantz, Emily Wolf, Bailey LaFountain, Tiffany Ozanski, Brianna Marinis, and Mohammed Natsheh. Each of the six finalists were awarded cash prizes funded by Believe in Ohio.
