LANCASTER - No injuries were reported in a small fire early Friday morning at Anchor Hocking.

Lancaster Fire Department Lt. K.J. Watts said employees mostly had the fire contained by the time firefighters arrived just after 4:30 a.m.

"We were there for about an hour just putting out a few hotspots," he said.

Watts said the fire was in the small batch mold room and started in a build up of cork dust. He said the cork dust is used to remove glass from molds.

This was the latest incident at the plant the last couple of years.

The last fire occured in December when fire broke out in a small building just inside a construction entrance to the plant near the intersection of Pierce Avenue and Union Street.

There was another fire in May that appeared to start in the machinery area.

In 2014, a tank ruptured in May and firefighters responded to the plant. Fire officials said that was similar to an incident in January of that year when a tank ruptured that caused a fire and a reported $3 million in damage.
