Music marathon to benefit children in need

ZANESVILLE - This year, on Dec. 5, a local band will host a 13-hour music marathon to raise money for underprivileged children in the community.

Brandon Middleton, of the Ol' Dirty Strangers, a five-piece band based in Zanesville, said the band tries to do as much charity and service work as possible, but this is the first music marathon in Zanesville they've ever headed up. The band is collaborating with Buck Daddy Production.

"We've played (for) cancer benefits," Middleton said. "I like to help other people out."

The event is scheduled to begin at noon at Oilers Sports Bar & Grill, at 147 N. Maysville Ave. Admission at the door is $15, or $5 and a toy donation. There will be a raffle and silent auction with items donated from various businesses. Funds raised will go toward the Lifewell Youth Ministry in Zanesville.

Local businesses that donated items for the auction include CA House Music, Muddy Misers, The Barn and Weasel Boy, among others. Merchandise from performing bands will also be up for auction.

Middleton said the admission would be more like a suggested donation — if someone only has $5 to give, they won't be turned away. The Lifewell, at 907 W. Main St., cares for and serves children in need in the community.

Middleton said events like these are important to him and his band, and supporting the community when they can is just something they've always wanted to do. The show isn't just for fans of the Ol' Dirty Strangers or fans of the other bands, but for anyone who wants to give some help to the children served by Lifewell.

"I like to do something different (to help people)," Middleton said.
