John McIntire locked down Tuesday after bomb threat

Staff Report

ZANESVILLE — John McIntire Elementary School was on lockdown for about 30 minutes Tuesday morning after the school received a threatening phone call.

Principal Kacey Cottrill said the phone call the school received was an automated message stating that the caller wanted to "bomb your house and bomb your car." The call was received at about 11:10 a.m.

"We call it a soft lockdown," Cottrill said, which means classes and activities go on as normal but all exterior doors are locked.

Zanesville Police Department responded to the scene and declared the school clear by about noon, Cottrill said. Officers traced the call, Cottrill said, and said it originated from another country.

Cottrill said other schools in the state have gotten similar calls.

More information from ZPD was not readily available.
