Deadline for cookoff extended

MARION — The deadline has been extended for the annual Marion Star Holiday Cookoff, which is emphasizing a holiday theme this year.

The deadline for entries is 5 p.m.Oct. 19.

Only recipes with a distinct holiday theme will be considered.

Categories have changed a bit from previous years, also. The five categories are: holiday main dish, holiday appetizers, gluten-free/diabetic desserts, holiday sweets and holiday youth (age 18 and under) favorites.

A grand prize will be awarded to the overall winner; also a category winner and a best display will be chosen.

The best way to enter is to send recipes to aconchel@gannett.com. We prefer emailed recipes, but we also will accept them by regular mail to Holiday Cookoff, The Marion Star, 163 E. Center St., Marion, OH 43302.

Entries must include a recipe name, cooking time and temperature, servings, ingredients and directions. Include the entrant's name, phone number, address and email address.

Finalists will be notified of their standing and invited to participate in the cookoff at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Primrose Retirement Community, 1550 Wellness Drive, Marion.
