MARION - Brian Verslues has accepted the call to serve in the newly created position of associate pastor of family ministries at Central Baptist Church in Marion.

Verslues, who will focus on a range of ministry programs for youth, children and families, will join the church staff in December.

A Missouri native, Verslues served as a teacher from 2011-15 at Warsaw (Mo.) High School, where he chaired the social studies department and taught subjects including philosophy, world history, economics, government and contemporary issues. He also sponsored the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter and the political science club.

Prior to his teaching assignments, Verslues served two combat tours in Iraq as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Verslues has a bachelor’s degree in political science and social science education from Southwest Baptist University, where he graduated magna cum laude. He is pursuing a master’s degree in philosophical apologetics from Houston Baptist University.

“We are excited to have Brian and his family join us in our ministry to the Marion community,” said Ryan Strother, senior pastor at Central Baptist. “He brings a great blend of real-life work experiences, a strong character and a passion for sharing the love of Christ with our church and our community.”

Verslues and his wife, Ashley, are the parents of a son, Marshall. They will be relocating to the Marion area soon.

Central Baptist, 2816 Marion Waldo Road, a Southern Baptist church, was founded in 1982.
