LEXINGTON — A local teen who allegedly made disturbing posts on Facebook, causing panic at Lexington High School, was taken into custody Friday.

Mansfield Law Director John Spon called the News Journal on behalf of Mansfield parents who have children in the Lexington School District, to say a person of interest is now in custody, therefore there is no concern for parents.

Spon said he spoke with a Lexington Police Department captain this afternoon.

A news release from Lexington Police Department said a 17-year-old Lexington student is in custody and is facing charges by the Richland County Prosecutor's Office.

The teen reportedly was suspended last week and now faces expulsion.

"Tell the parents the kids can proceed to enjoy their football game and homecoming. Any concern for the individual has been evaded. He is in custody," Spon said.

Lexington Schools Superintendent J. Michael Ziegelhofer could not immediately be reached for comment.

A person answering the Board of Education office on Friday confirmed that some parents were coming to the school to pick up their children.
