United Way, Tri-Rivers students Make Difference

Submitted

MARION — United Way of Marion County worked with more than 200 Tri-Rivers Career Center students on Monday as a part of its Live United volunteer program, a news release states.

Each senior class at Tri-Rivers worked in the community through a variety of activities, including doing manicures for senior citizens at Marion Rotary Towers, preparing the meals for the Salvation Army’s soup kitchen and sorting books at Goodwill Industries.

This was seventh annual Make a Difference Day. Students gathered that morning at the school before heading out to 16 service sites for volunteer and learning opportunities.

“As you walk into Tri-Rivers, there is a banner that reads ‘Be Amazing’ ” said Amber Wertman, United Way’s assistant director. “Our area high school students want to make a contribution to help make our community a stronger place ... and that is amazing.”
