Marion Star Staff Report

ROSEMONT, Illinois — Minnesota’s men’s tennis team recently finished its best season since 2000 under the guidance of a 1990 Marion Harding graduate.

Geoff Young, a member of the Harding Hall of Fame, steered the Gophers to their first Big Ten regular-season title since 1995 with a 10-1 record and to their most wins since 2000 with 21.

The Gopher also qualified for the NCAA Tournament and advanced into the second round.

Young, in his ninth season at the helm of the Gophers, was selected as the Big Ten coach of the year and as the Central Region Wilson/ITA coach of the year for his efforts in the 2015 season.

This season’s Minnesota team had a 10-win improvement in the regular season from the season before.

Seven of Young’s players earned Academic All-Big Ten honors this season.

Young fashioned a 127-4 record as a player at Marion Harding. He is a 1994 graduate of Northwestern University.
