This week’s high school football games

Staff report

Desales at Lancaster

In 2014: The Golden Gales were 7-3; The Stallions were 10-3.

Last meeting: DeSales won 20-19 in 1996.

Radio: WLOH (104.5-FM).

Of note: The Golden Gales went undefeated at home in 2014. The Stallions have a tradition-rich program. Both teams like to run the football. The Golden Gales will have to control the football and not make any mistakes.

Amanda-Clearcreek at Lakewood

In 2014: The Aces were 6-5; the Lancers were 2-8.

Last meeting: Amanda-Clearcreek won 42-0 in 2014.

Of note: The Aces are led by All-State running back Jordan Leasure, who is looking for an even bigger year after helping the Aces reach the playoffs last season. The Lancers are an improving team and this game should be more competitive than what it was in 2014.

Bloom-Carroll at John Glenn

In 2014: The Bulldogs were 4-6; The Little Muskies were 4-6.

Last meeting: N/A

Of note: The Bulldogs had a pair of one-point losses early in the season so getting off to a fast start will be key to their success. Bloom-Carroll will have to rely on its defense until its offense, which had to replace several starters, comes around.

Lincoln West at Berne Union

In 2014: The Rockets were 1-9; the Wolverines were 2-7.

Last meeting: N/A

Of note: The Rockets have struggled the last several years, but with more depth, they are expecting big things this season. A win Friday would give the team a ton of a confidence. Lincoln West is a Division II school, but it has less than 30 players on its roster.

Caldwell at Liberty Union

In 2014: The Lions were 7-4; the Redskins were 11-1.

Last meeting: N/A

• Radio: WLOH (104.5-FM - Delayed Game).

Of note: The Lions have reached the playoffs in three of the past four years, including last season. However, the team must replace all 11 starters on offense. Caldwell went 10-0 in the regular season in 2014.

Fisher Catholic at Paint Valley (Thursday)

In 2014: The Irish were 3-7; the Bearcats were 8-3.

Last meeting: N/A

• Radio: WLOH (104.5 FM and 1320 AM - delayed game); WFCO (90.9 FM).

Of note: The Irish return several outstanding starters on offense, but with a new coach, they will be running a new system. How long it takes them to get accustomed to could decide the Irish’s success.

Fairfield Union at New Lexington

In 2014: The Falcons were 2-8; the Panthers were 5-5.

Last meeting: Fairfield Union won 27-21.

Of note: The Falcons won two of their first three games in 2014. They will need to get off to another good start to gain some confidence.

Millersport at Eastern

In 2014: The Lakers were 7-3; the Eagles were 5-5.

Last meeting: N/A

Of note: After a snapping a 48-game losing streak in 2014, the goal this season for the Lakers will be to see if they can continue their success.

Groveport at Canal Winchester

In 2014: The Indians were 1-9; the Cruisers were 2-8.

Last meeting: Canal Winchester won 28-19.

Of note: The Indians have struggled since joining the Ohio Capital Conference, going 1-19 the last two seasons. The 2014 win over the Cruisers in 2014 was the lone victory during that time.

Fairfield Christian at Rosecrans (Saturday)

In 2014: The Knights were 1-9; the Bishops were 2-8.

Last meeting: N/A

Of note: As it was a year ago, low numbers could make a huge difference for the Knights. Rosecrans also is fighting low number problems with only 18 players on the roster.
