ASHLAND — Law enforcement had Ohio 603 blocked off in the area of U.S. 42 into the night Thursday due to a standoff between Ashland County Sheriff's Office and an armed male at a residence on Ohio 603.

A suicidal man reportedly was holed up inside a house with a gun, an Ohio Highway Patrol trooper at the scene said. The Highway Patrol arrived about 7:30 p.m. to control traffic and was soon relieved by the Ohio Department of Transportation, which controlled traffic for the next several hours.

In addition to closing Ohio 603 at U.S. 42, law enforcement blocked Ohio 603 at U.S. 30 and at Crider Road.

A command center has been setup at 1708 Ohio 603, and no traffic was allowed near the command center.

The Ashland County Sheriff's Office bomb squad arrived with a robot around 9:30 p.m.

No further details were released Thursday.
