Wynford takes care of business against Ridgedale

Don Shumaker

After a Week 1 loss, Wynford traveled to Ridgdale and it didn’t take the Royals long to get back on track.

The Royals (1-1, 1-0 Northern 10) scored on all of their first half possessions and finished the game with a 50-0 victory.

Ridgedale (0-2, 0-1) fought hard but couldn’t respond to the relentless attack.

Wynford wide receiver Tony Watson kicked the offensive fireworks off with a 14-yard touchdown run. Watson finished with a well rounded performance, chipping in a touchdown reception and an interception for the Royals. It only took a couple minutes for Nick Looker to contribute with his biggest run of the night, a 50-yard touchdown jaunt, after eluding a defender in the backfield.

The defense got on the scoreboard too, recording a safety to put the Royals up 23-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Junior quarterback Zach Hoffman lobbed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Braxton Tea to start the second quarter. Hoffman finished the game with 164 yards and three touchdowns.

The Rockets had little success all night in part because its promising drives were cut short due to penalties. After driving to the Wynford 35 yard line, the Rockets suffered four penalties for a loss of 30 yards and capped the drive with an interception.

The Royals only needed one play to strike, a 31-yard run by Robbie Miller to put the Royals up 50-0 going into the locker rooms.

The second half saw less drama as both teams were held scoreless. The Rockets’ defense held strong on the goal line late in the fourth quarter and recovered a Wynford fumble to preserve the second half shutout. Wynford’s defense was paced by Seth Hoffman, who recorded four sacks.
