Three arrested during child welfare check

WAVERLY – An anonymous tip regarding children in the presence of drug activity resulted in a trio of arrests in Pike County Monday.

According to Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader, deputies were dispatched Monday to 396 Johnson Hill Road for a child welfare check connected to possible drug activity. Deputies spoke with the home’s owner, Mariam Vanderpool, 33, and, according to the sheriff, noticed several children in the home, various drug abuse items and some individuals with outstanding warrants for their arrest.

Reader said investigators dispatched to the home to assist officers located heroin in the home. Arrested were Vanderpool; Amber Zimmerman, 22, of Waverly; and Ashley Zimmerman, 22, of Waverly.

Pike County Children’s Services was called to the scene and are investigating the children’s living conditions for possible additional charges.
