NEW LEXINGTON – Just as the preliminary autopsy found, a New Lexington toddler who died in March sustained multiple scrapes, bruises and bite marks, according to a final report from the Licking County coroner.

Blunt force injury to the head and neck was a contributing factor to the March 26 death of 2-year-old Aiden Adkins, according to an autopsy report released last week.

The report indicates Adkins was covered in more than 30 bruises, some more than 1 inch in length. His head, neck and torso had seven scrapes, and three bite marks were found on his arms.

This all is consistent with a preliminary autopsy released by the Licking County coroner the day after Adkins' death.

Adkins, the son of Katherine Talbot and Brian Adkins, died at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was found unresponsive around 5:30 a.m. that day in his home at 209 Orchard St. A man who identified himself as Chris Seals told the 911 dispatcher Adkins had hit his head after he fell off a bed.

Police and other emergency personnel responded to the home and administered CPR before transporting the child.

Though New Lexington Police Chief Scott Ervin previously called the death questionable, he said he was waiting on autopsy results before proceeding with the investigation.

No arrests have been made in the case as of Wednesday, Ervin said.
