State funds give Zane State a makeover

Staff Report

Zanesville – Zane State College is using state funds to update campus facilities.

Receiving $1.13 million in state grants, the money will go toward “differed maintenance”—meaning upgrading and refurbishing dated buildings.

Dr. Paul Brown, Zane State president, said the maintenance will affect major facilities across campus, including College Hall and the Natural Resources Building.

“We’re doing a broad variety of differed maintenance,” Brown said, “such as replacing doors to keep them up to date with the [Americans with Disabilities Act], upgrades to IT computer servers and new roofing.”

The most prominent of the upgrades will affect College Hall, where a new roof will be installed at a total cost of around $900,000 with Zane State College and Ohio University Zanesville splitting the cost. Other improvements include a new roof, new downspouts and the installation of internet access to Zane State’s Natural Resources Building, which is located in the woods west of campus.

“These upgrades are not just aesthetic, but are practical and necessary improvements to our facilities,” Brown said. “What this amounts to is simply a way for us to better serve all of our students.”
