Jarret Art, Ridgewood 4x100 relay advance to state

Staff report

Navarre – Ridgewood’s 4x100 team and Jarret Art, in the long jump, will be going to next weekend’s state track and field tournament in Columbus.

The Generals 4x100 relay team ran a time of 43.82, which was enough to win the region in that event. They finished ahead of Trinity high school, who came into the meet with the second fastest time in the state.

The 4x100 group consisted of Billy Bailey, Michael Kelly, Jarret Art and Zak Donley, is the same group that was disqualified in the 4x200 in the district meet.

“I’m happy for them,” head coach John Slusser. “Our region is very difficult, when you win regional it says something. They have a chance to win the state championship, they are defintely in the running.”

For that to happen though, Slusser said the team needs to get its time down to around the 43.5 range.

While the members of the 4x100 team can celebrate that accomplishment, Donley and Art had other events as well.

Art won the long jump event with a distance of 20-10. But, while Art won that event he did not qualify in the 200, placing one spot out, in fifth (22.84).

Donley, who has been battling injuries all season, finished in seventh in the 200 (23.22) and seventh in the 100 (11.30).

Art and Donley really wanted to make state in their individual events, Slusser said.

Also among the General’s athletes, Blake Feldner finished ninth in the shot put (46-01.50) and Anthony Harmon finished last in the discus throw (113-01).

The 4x100 team and Art will compete at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, at The Ohio State University next weekend.
