Storms down lines, start fires across county

OTTAWA COUNTY – Firefighters had a busy Tuesday evening after heavy winds took down power lines across the county and started a fire in Oak Harbor.

At 7:25 p.m., Portage Fire District and Mid-County EMS were called to a house fire on Washington Street. The fire was believed to have been started after lines came down from heavy winds with Tuesday evening’s storm front.

A person with EMS called over the radio that all occupants had been evacuated and that there were no injuries. A firefighter with the Oak Harbor Fire Department said no information surrounding the fire could be released.

At 7:36 p.m., Allen-Clay Joint Fire District was set to Curtice E. and W. between Genoa-Clay Center and Short for multiple downed lines.

To the north, Rocky Ridge volunteer firefighters and EMS were called to live wires and poles down on Rocky Ridge Road near True Road at 7:45 p.m.

No information for any of the incidents was available as of press time.
