COSHOCTON – The Coshocton County Board of Elections has appointed Kirsten Ross, a Republican from Coshocton, to serve as the board’s deputy director.

She replaces Jennifer Biggers, who resigned at the end of January, board Director Stephanie Slifko said.

Ross will start Tuesday, earning $17 an hour in a 35-hour workweek, Slifko said. The board will evaluate Ross after she serves a 90-day probation period.

By Ohio law, the director and deputy director of the county board of elections must be of opposite parties. Slifko is a Democrat. Likewise, the chairman of the board and director are of opposite parties.

Ross will join the office just before the special election, set for May 5. Only two issues are slated to appear on that ballot locally.

Coshocton voters are being asked to approve a 0.5 percentage point income tax increase to raise about $1.4 million annually for law enforcement, criminal justice, general safety and security.

Voters served by the Coshocton County Joint Vocational School District will consider a five-year, 1-mill permanent improvement levy to update and repair the Coshocton County Career Center.

Early voting continues through Monday at the County Services Building, 724 S. Seventh St. The office will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

The polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 5.
