FREMONT – After an extended search, Fremont City Schools announced Monday it has hired Strongsville City School District assistant treasurer Amy Gioffredo as its new treasurer.

The Fremont school district had been searching for a treasurer since April 2014, when it first appointed James Estle as its interim treasurer.

Gioffredo starts May 11 and will serve under a three-year contract, with an annual salary of $95,000.

"I'm very excited for this opportunity with Fremont City Schools. It's a fantastic school system and I'm glad to be part of the team," Gioffredo said.

Gioffredo has served as an assistant treasurer in Strongsville since 2010, with previous experience as an administrative treasurer assistant in Vermilion Local School District and an accounting manager at Lorain City Schools. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with degrees in accounting and fashion merchandising in 1994.

Board member Juanita Sanchez said there were nine applicants considered for the position, with four people interviewed twice for the job.

Sanchez said Gioffredo's expertise and enthusiasm set her apart from the other finalists.

"She's a good fit for the district," Sanchez said.

Fremont City Schools removed the "interim" from Estle's title in July 2014 and approved a two-year contract with the district treasurer through July 2016.

Estle's new contract came with an agreement he and the board would continue the search for a permanent replacement for David Chambers, who resigned as the district's treasurer in March 2014.

Estle will remain with the district as a financial consultant through Dec. 31.
